Lies
********************************************
I was surprised to
see Jjangme fetching me from my villa that I share with my family. Park kept
texting me yesterday reminding me of my first shooting day for my new movie
“Tazza” so I naturally thought that she’ll be the one to accompany me. It’s
been a week since we came back from our unexpected extended stay in the island
because of the storm and I asked for a week of uninterrupted vacation.
“Where’s Park?” I
asked as I got comfortable in the company van.
“She’s busy looking
for a new apartment” Jjangme answered.
“A new apartment?”
“She rented out the
one she shared with …uhm -“Jjangne trailed off. “Anyway, she told me that she
already has a taker, newlyweds actually, and that they want to move in by next
week so she’s busy looking around for a smaller place for herself.”
I nodded. So, she
really did it. Good then. A change in environment can help in moving on.
I pursed my lips
and concentrated on reading the movie’s script. I’ll have little to no time for
resting the next 3 months. I sighed. The movie that I just finished shooting
will open in 2 weeks and I’ll also be doing some interview rounds for
promotion. Not only that, I also have a CF scheduled within the week.
Not that I’m
complaining, I am grateful that I have a lot of things lined up. But sometimes
… I wonder if all this is worth it … I sigh again. I briefly think back on my
last relationship. I wonder why I was never satisfied. Sure, I enjoyed the time
I spent will all my exes. But it’s just that. I was never tempted to stick to
whatever relationship we had for too long. There was always something
missing.
It’s kinda like the
character that I’m going to play in this movie. He’s always wanting for
something more. Never satisfied.
He’s a sad
character, come to think about it. Oh well, since I can relate, I hope that I
can translate that into acting.
I flip through the
pages and began reading my lines out loud. I hope that the first shooting day
will go well.
*****************************
We have been
shooting for 16 hours a day for the past 3 days and my scenes will resume
shooting in 2 days. I can sleep a little longer at last!
At least, that’s
what I thought. Until someone came ringing my doorbell incessantly.
I live alone in my
secret secluded house right in the outskirts of Seoul with my own private
driveway leading from the street to my property. Only a few people in YG know
about it. I don’t want reporters or fans camping out my gate like what they did
when the media learned about the villa I had built for my family. I still stay
there most of the time but it’s very far from work so it’s a necessity that I
get a place for myself that easily accessible. It’s not that big for a bungalow
type with only 3 bedrooms, all with their own T&B, one of which I converted
into an office slash exercise room. The kitchen has modern design and equipment
though I don’t really cook and I have a spacious walk-in closet as well. My
favorite part of the house is the living room where I usually lounge around on
the black leather couch watching sports channels or playing video games on my
giant flat-screen TV. I don’t have a lot of furniture yet and I couldn’t be
bothered to buy new ones. I am alone here, anyway. I even refused my Mom and
sister when they offered to decorate it for me.
Now, back to the
ringing doorbell that’s driving me crazy. I groaned and with eyes barely open,
I got up from bed and went to the door to see who it was from the security
camera.
Park’s eyebrows are
almost meeting together and she doesn’t look too happy. In fact, I think that
she’s ready to climb over the iron gate anytime soon.
Tightening the belt
of my robe around my waist, I looked over the wall clock, with my right eye
still closed from sleep and f*ck!
I immediately
pushed the button to open the gate and instructed Park to come in.
She marched right
in and stared at me like I was a very disappointing child when I met her by the
door. I was expecting her to scold me or something but she just let out a deep
sigh and went past me to get inside.
“Where are your
things? We have to leave. You’re late.”
I pointed towards
my walk in closet. Jjangme together with a stylist prepared my outfit for today
last night. Park checked them and apparently satisfied, laid them back on the
couch where she found them.
“Have you had
breakfast?” she asked, but after seeing my ‘just woke up look’, didn’t wait for
my answer. “Where’s the kitchen?”
Pointing to the
left, she walked past me again in a brisk pace and I followed her.
“Why do you keep
following me?” she inquired without looking back at me. She’s busy looking at
the contents of my fridge. “Go take a shower! We should have been on the road
30 minutes ago.”
I made an about
face and took the shortest shower I’ve ever taken. Upon dressing, I noticed
that my phone shows 16 missed calls and 7 messages, all from Park.
Park prepared scrambled
eggs and toast and I wolfed it down in record time.
“I didn’t have time
to brew so drink this instead.” She poured orange juice into a glass from a
tetra pack. “We’ll grab some coffee on the way.”
We were out the
door in 5 minutes.
******************************
I struck a huge
deal with Reebok and I will do a lot of campaigns for them. Today, we will film
a CF with Sohee as my leading lady. I’ve met Sohee before in numerous music
shows back when I was still promoting as a rapper. She hadn’t made an
impression on me back then although she was the most popular girl idol at that
time. This was around the time I met Minah. So, yeah, you could understand why
I wasn’t looking at other girls before.
Anyway, we arrived
almost an hour and a half late. Thankfully, the director of the CF is someone
I’ve worked with before so he went easy on me. Park handed out the coffee she
bought when we stopped by Starbucks on our way to the shooting location to the
crew and she bowed 90 degrees to all of them saying ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’ for
the inconvenience we have caused in the
delay of shooting.
To do my part, I
worked diligently and as always, the photos came out magnificent if I may say
so myself. I am not a braggart. I just tell the truth. I know that a lot of
people find me handsome and manly and I’m proud of all the hard work I’ve
invested to lose all those pounds way back when I was still an underground
rapper. At first, I was skeptic when they tell me that I’m one of the best-looking
celebrity in the industry. I mean, I spent most of my growing up years being
the fat kid.
Now, I’ve accepted
the fact that girls will always fall on my feet whenever I cock my eyebrows at
them or give them a smile. In a matter of minutes, I managed to charm all the
girls in the shoot. Even Sohee.
She mostly talked
about the yester years when we would meet in music shows and how she’s jealous
of my found success in acting. She said that she’s actually transitioning from
being a singer to an actress. She asked for some advice and I gave her some. In
one of the breaks for our fourth outfit, while we were waiting for the
photographer and design team to finish their set-up, Sohee sidled up to me and
casually asked about my manager.
“She looks familiar”
Sohee said, glancing towards Park who was sitting at the corner busy with her
phone. “She used to work with Jiyong, right?”
I nodded.
Sohee smiled. “Ah,
now I remember. She was his stylist right? I used to see her a lot tagging
along GD.”
Again, I nodded.
“What’s her name
again? Park something…”
“Sandara.”
“Ah, yes. Sandara.
I think GD calls her Dara” Sohee mused.
It looked like she
was about to say more but then, we were interrupted by one of the staff. It’s
time to resume our shooting.
It’s late and we’ll
continue shooting early tomorrow morning, just in time for sunrise. I can still
go home and sleep on my bed for 3 to 4 hours. I was looking forward to that
thought as I made my way towards my assigned dressing room. I was held up by
the director as asked me questions about the movie I’m currently filming.
The door was ajar
when I arrived there and I could hear female voices from the inside.
I took a peak when
I heard Sohee say. “I’m very sorry, Sandara-shi.” Her back is facing me and she
was bowing before a very perplexed looking Park.
“Ah, Sohee-shi,
please …” Park said, she looked like she was about to bow or pull Sohee to
stand straight. “I don’t understand. What are you saying sorry for?”
Sohee seemed hesitant.
“I don’t know if it’s right to bring up the past but you see, I never got the
chance to meet with you personally before so I was unable to say my apology.”
I’m able to see half
of Park’s face, unconcealed from Sohee’s back. Her eyebrows are together in
confusion.
“I don’t understand
…”
“I didn’t know that
he was dating you at that time” Sohee said in a rush. “He led me to believe
that he was free and single. He pursued me, you see … and I’m sure you know how
sweet Jiyong can be when he wants to …” she gave a delicate shrug. “The fans
loved it when rumors about us dating came out and we were happy … at least …
until I found out about you.”
During Sohee’s
speech, Park’s face has shown confusion, surprise, disbelief and hurt.
There was some
silence and it seemed that no one wants to break it first.
Finally, Sohee
spoke. “I see that this has come as a shock to you. I didn’t mean to make you
feel bad or anything … I just wanted you to know the truth. Jiyong and I … we
could still be together but when I found out that he also had you, I just
thought that it wasn’t right, you know? I’m a girl, too so I didn’t like it
that he was two-timing us. So in the end, I broke up with him. He begged for me
to stay and said that he was will break it off with you but he was just waiting
for the right timing. He then explained that you were high school sweethearts
and he was only staying with you out of loyalty … OMO!” Sohee exclaimed. “Unnie
… are you crying? I’m so sorry!”
“N-No. No, I’m not.
I’m fine.” I can see Park struggling to keep her smile.
“I think it’s time
for me to go now. I’m sorry if I brought you pain but I just wanted you to know
that I understand if you hate him right now. I heard that he’s dating CL,
right?” Sohee patted Park’s arm. “I say good riddance.”
“Ah … yes” came
Park’s awkward response.
“Oh well, I’ve done
my part. I’ll see you tomorrow okay? I hope we can be friends. I heard you are
TOP’s manager now?” Park nodded. “Super! I hope the 3 of us can be friends. Say,
why don’t we all go out to dinner tomorrow? My treat!”
“Ah … I’ll check
with Choi first.”
“If you don’t come,
that means you don’t accept my apology …”
“It’s not like that
…”
“I’m just kidding”
Sohee said in a cheerful tone. “But, I’d really appreciate it if you can bring
TOP with you.” And then added in a half whisper. “I heard he’s recently single.”
Park said nothing
to deny or confirm that but gave a smile that looked more like a grimace.
“Bye now! See you
tomorrow!”
Not wanting to be
caught eavesdropping, I immediately ran my way back outside and made it appear
like I was just walking just round the corner just in time when Sohee emerged
from my room.
I was surprised to
see her expression. She has a smug look on her face and a glint of menace on
her eyes. It’s definitely not the look of somebody who asked for forgiveness and
then offered friendship.
Seeing me, her face
turned into a smile so bright I almost questioned myself if I saw what I saw a
few seconds ago.
“Oppa!” she cried.
“You came from my
room?” I innocently inquired.
“Oh? Yeah …” she
gave a sheepish grin. “I’m sorry I mistook your room for mine.” Her’s is right
beside mine with a huge print out of her name on the door. If she thought that
I accept her explanation, then she’s sadly mistaken. But, she’s playing the
part of a dumb girl so I’ll let her. I remember she did say that she’s going
into acting.
I passed by her and
went to my door.
“It was nice
working with you, Oppa! See you again tomorrow!” she waved happily.
I think I gave her
a smile or a grunt or something before I turned the doorknob. Note to self, even cute girls can be scary.
I found Park with
her arms folded on top of the dresser and her head was leaning on them. I
cleared my throat very loudly in case she didn’t hear me come in.
She instantly sat
upright and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. “You’re back” she said
and gave an exaggerated yawn. “I think I slept for a few minutes” she followed
a fake yawn and wiped her eyes again. “Are you done?”
I nodded. Her eyes
look suspiciously moist and red but she was grinning like an idiot.
“Great! Let’s go? I
really need to go home.” She picked up the rest of my stuff and marched outside
without waiting for me.
The ride home was
quiet. Too quiet, in fact.
I normally play
music in the car but I was trying to be respectful of Park’s current mood, so even
though I put on my Beats, I didn’t press play on my IPod. I was waiting for her
to say something and in the event that she did, I wanted to be able to hear it.
But she remained silent throughout the drive and I was strangely disappointed.
When we arrived at
my house, we both got out off the car. I was quick to pick up all the bags to
carry inside before Park had the chance to.
“I guess I’ll see
you tomorrow, then” she said, walking towards the driver side of the car.
“Park” I called.
She turned back to
look at me.
“You don’t have to
come with me tomorrow.”
Her eyebrows shot
up.
“I heard you’re
hunting for an apartment. Tell Jjangme to come with me tomorrow instead.”
Park shook her head.
“Jjangme’s in Japan with the Winner boys. One of their managers got sick. You’re
stuck with me until next week.” She doesn’t look thrilled with that prospect.
“I see” I said,
nodding. “Don’t worry, I’ll wake up really early tomorrow.” I grinned, teasing
her a bit.
She gave her
trademark rolling of the eyes.”See that you do. Don’t forget to turn off the
silent mode or else …”
“Or else what?” I
challenged.
“I’ll let you sleep
and won’t try to wake you. Then, your shooting will be cancelled and YG will
receive a complaint about breach of contract and you will have to explain to
him in person why you were unable to answer my calls or messages because you
kept your phone on silent mode.” Park finished with one hand on her hip. “That
is the ‘or else’.”
“You’re mean.” I
semi pouted.
I was rewarded with
a smile. Her first real smile that I’ve seen today. “And don’t you forget it” she
warned, as she sashayed to the car and drove off to the night.
***********************************
The next day, Sohee
was especially perky and flirty which annoyed me to no end. Of course, I
pretended to be all smiles but inside, I was ready to call it a day. By lunch
time, word has gone out that the entire crew will have a celebratory dinner. Finally,
when the last sequence was done, I couldn’t move fast enough to leave. Thankfully,
the next campaign won’t be in the next couple of months.
“Oppa, you’re
coming with us, right?” Sohee called giving me a puppy dog look.
“Going where?” I
asked.
Sohee lost her
smile. “Didn’t your manager tell you?”
I pretended to
think about it.
Her eyes now show
annoyance. “I asked her to tell you that I invited you to dinner.”
“Oh!” I said, “That!
Yes, she did tell me.” In fact, that’s the first thing that Park told me this
morning when she picked me up. She asked me if I wanted to go but I made a non-committal
sound. I asked her if she wanted to go but she shrugged and said that she’s
busy.
I smiled at Sohee. “I’m
sorry but I really can’t. I have an early call time tomorrow and I need to
study my lines. Mianhe.”
“It won’t take
long, promise.”
“I’m really sorry.
Maybe next time? Anyway, I heard the whole staff and crew is going so I’m sure
you’ll have fun. Bye!” I turned around but not until I saw her disappointed
face.
******************************************
I heard a screech
from behind Sohee’s dressing room door.
“I hate her!” Sohee’s
voice came through the paper thin wall dividing our room.
“Of course you do”
soothed another voice.
“I bet she planned
this. I bet she let it slip to the rest of the staff that I’m treating dinner
that’s why everyone’s coming. Aargh!”
“I bet she did.” I
now recognize the little voice of her haggard looking manager.
“I really, really
hate her! I bet this is her revenge for telling her about me and GD yesterday. She
was acting so kind this morning when all along she has this planned behind my
back.”
“She’s a two-faced
b*tch” said the trusty manager.
“I know right!” I
can imagine Sohee pacing around in the little dressing room. It’s a good thing
that Park has already gone to get the car so she’s not here to hear Sohee’s
rant.
“I don’t understand
what GD saw in her” she continued. “I mean, she’s not even pretty, right?”
“Of course she’s
not. She looks nothing compared to you.”
“Exactly!” cried
Sohee. “So I don’t understand why GD picked her over me! ME! Can you tell me
why would someone pick HER over ME?”
Silence.
I stifled a laugh.
The manager seemed to be at a loss for words for once. Tsk, the poor soul. To
have to deal with a bipolar charge.
“GD definitely has
no class.” That was Sohee’s voice.
“Yes, definitely.”
“Do you know what
he said? He said that he loves her. He said that he may play around but his
heart belongs to her. Can you believe that jerk?” I heard an unladylike snort.
“But you should
have seen Sandara’s face yesterday.” Sohee gloated. “I made her cry. Boo-hoo.”
Cackled laughter followed. “Oh, it was so much fun seeing her cry. And I intend
to see her suffer more now that we’ll be seeing more of each other.” Laughter
again.
Not if I
can help it, I say to myself as I exit the room.

A/N:
Sorry if it took me
too long to update …
I have another
story in my head and it’s all I can think about lately. If only I can Bluetooth
my thoughts to my computer I would so it won’t take too long for me to type out
the words… I already have this story outlined and I can’t wait to get to the
part where Donghae’s included but I simply don’t have the time.
So please be a
little more patient and stay with me as I establish the relationship between
the characters.
And, as always, no
time to proofread …
